Furhter along is the old bark house, now used for summer dwellings it where fishermen would boil their nets and sails with oak bark to help preserve them. Items that were purchased in Devonport and Plymouth were landed here by market boat. Bark houses were used as stores and work areas where fishing nets were placed in large vats and boiled in a solution of oak bark extract in order to protect them against saltwater before being used the nets were hung on poles or placed on the beach to allow the treatment to dry.
