The Coade Stone situated near the French Garden, it was erected by the 1st Earl George Edgcumbe in 1791. The 14ft high edifice was built as a memorial to his old naval friend Timothy Brett. As may be seen from this photograph it is supported by Tortoises and has 3-dished sides. There are similar monuments in Sussex and Lincolnshire.
