The Fern Dell with Pets Cemetery: Between the English Garden and the Great Ilex Hedge is the Fern Dell, considered by many visitors to have been a rather gloomy place because of the ferns and Ivies, which grew there in great profusion The area once contained a monument to Cupid, the pet pig already mentioned; unfortunately his headstone has been removed. George 111 apparently, on one of his visits to Mount Edgcumbe was amused when he saw the headstone and upon Queen Charlotte's enquiry as to what was the source of amusement he chuckled "It's the family vault Charly, the family vault". There are still tombstones erected by the Edgcumbes for their family dogs, as you can see in this photograph, so it is sometimes called the pets Cemetery
